Awards for Schools
There are a number of awards throughout the UK which aim to reward those schools which really show their green credentials!
Eco-Schools
Eco-Schools is an internationally recognised award programme that guides schools on a sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed the sustainable principles into the heart of school life.
Joining Eco-Schools is free, and makes managing your sustainable journey easy.
After you register, the school follows a simple 9 step process which helps you address a variety of environmental themes, including Waste and Water through to Healthy Living and School Grounds.
Children benefit from Eco-Schools directly, as they are the driving force behind it. They lead the Eco-Committee, and help with the audits to assess the schools environmental performance. The measuring and monitoring, which is integral to Eco-Schools, enables schools to provide the evidence that they need to shout about their environmental success.
There are 3 levels within Eco-Schools: Bronze, Silver and Green Flag. These have varying levels of commitment, which gives your school an easily manageable step by step programme to success.

ASDAN Environmental Award
The Environmental Award has been developed by Eco-Schools in partnership with ASDAN (www.asdan.org.uk) and is the first nationally recognised qualification in sustainability for secondary school students.
It is designed to run alongside the Eco-Schools activities and acknowledge individual students participation as your school progresses to Green Flag status.
As a multi-level award, it allows students to obtain a stand alone certificate of achievement, which is undertaken inside and outside of formal education. It also offers the opportunity to progress into nationally recognised awards and qualifications.

Global Action Plan - Action at School
This is an environmental programme that helps schools to save resources and money. It is linked to KS3 and KS4 and is recognised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Global Action Plan supports a volunteer team, helping them to measure their school's environmental impact, set improvement targets, communicate effectively and build partnerships with local community organisations. Students come up with imaginative solutions and lead the way in implementing them. Schools tackle a number of problems and it is a year long course of training and support, which therefore requires third party funding.
