The different waste streams in Surrey

Waste is divided into three main streams:

• Waste generated by households
• Waste generated by commercial activity
• Waste created by industrial activities.

Each waste stream is made up of different classes of waste:

• Inert (material that does not break down such as rubble)
• Non-inert (material that does break down such as green waste and cardboard)
• Hazardous (such as asbestos and chemicals).

This website is mainly interested in Household Waste, that which is produced by individuals in their own homes.
