How to Reduce Junk Mail
Addressed JUNK MAIL
Contact the Mailing Preference Service and register with them that you no longer wish to receive any junk mail. By supplying the Mailing Preference Service with your name and address, you will gradually receive less addressed junk mail. The entire process takes up to 4 months to start completely and lasts for 5 years.
NOTE - You will still receive mail from companies that you have done business with in the past e.g. catalogue companies.
Un-addressed JUNK MAIL
Much of the junk mail that people receive is posted out on a regional basis to every household. Visit the Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Out pages and follow the step by step instructions. This can take up to 6 weeks.
NOTE - that by using this service, you will no longer receive the un-addressed information that your District and County Councils send out.
Local JUNK MAIL
Finally, you may wish to put up a `No Free Newspapers or Junk Mail' sticker onto your letterbox. This helps to stop the local junk mail that you tend to get in towns and cities. This can be anything from pizza flyers to landscape gardening adverts. Visit Recycle.co.uk to purchase a sticker.
