About this site - what is it?

This website is designed to:-

  1. Help people swap/give away or otherwise find a home for items that they no longer want, possibly swapping them for something that they do want
  2. Help people to stop having to throw things away because they cannot find anywhere else to dispose of them

And it's free!!

There are no registration or other charges and everything advertised on the site is
free or to swap (although obviously you may have to pay charges to use the internet).

Swap It is a website for the people of Surrey. We regularly receive enquiries from people who have items they can't find a use for, but don't just want to throw away. We are hoping that this website will enable them to find a home for these items so that they do not end up in landfill sites.

You can give things away for free or swap them for something else, or ask for an item you want.

What kind of things can you advertise?

Anything really - what have you got?! We have heard of all sorts of things that people want to get rid of but don't want to throw away.

For example, you may have a new computer and want to dispose of your old one, but due to its age, it is not worth anything to sell. Someone may be able to update or use the parts for something else.

Perhaps you have got a few items that you have had lurking for ages in the garage/loft and haven't got around to getting rid of yet. Maybe you have some old garden items, but no longer have a garden?

How to place an ad?

Go to either the Items Offered or Items Wanted boards and register a new account.  This will ask for your name and the contact details you want to use for any ads you place.  You'll be emailed a password to log in.  You only need do this once: after you've registered, you'll be able to log in and place further ads at any time.

Once you've logged in, click the Place an Advert button in either the Items Offered or Items Wanted boards.  You'll be asked a few questions about the item and what you're willing to exchange it for.  Your ad will then be sent to the site moderators, and you'll be informed as soon as it's appeared on the site.

Also, if you swap something, please log in and delete your ad from the site. Alternatively, just let us know and we can then remove your ad for you.  This helps to stop people contacting you, and helps us gauge how effective the site is.
